1. Tyler S. Bay Scholarship:  (2 - $1000 Scholarships)
 
Eligibilty:   

Any Siouxland senior who has attained a degree or GED and is accepted to attend a college or university, including community college.

 
Submission Deadline:
April 2, 2010
 
Application Procedure:
  1.  Applicant must complete all information on the application.

  2.  Official High School transcript must accompany the application.

  3.  Two letters of recommendation are required. One letter should be from a teacher,

     counselor, or administrator who can speak to your educational record; and one should be

     from an employer or other individual who can provide a character reference.

     (These must be sent directly to the scholarship committee by the person giving the recommendation.)

  5.  Special Circumstances

 
Special consideration will be given to an application/applicant who has displayed courage and outstanding citizenshipin overcoming any of the challenges life can place upon todays student. This is the true "Spirit of the Tyler S.Bay Scholarship"

2. Most Valuable Student Scholarship:
The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2010 competition.
 
 
Eligibilty:   
  1. Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply.
  2. Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks.
  3. College students are not eligible to apply.
  4. Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; resident alien status does not qualify.
  5. Male and female students compete separately.

November 2, 2009 (Must be delivered to the Lodge on or before)
 
Application Procedure:
Applications must advance through local, district and state competition to reach the national competition. The Chicago office of the Elks National Foundation will announce the 500 national winners, and notify them in writing, around April 15, 2010.
 
Selection Criteria:
Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need
 
 
 
 
3. Legacy Scholarship:
 
Eligibilty:   
  1. Any child or grandchild (or step-child, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2006, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2006, is eligible to apply. The Elk must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2010. Great-grandchildren are not eligible.

  2. The applicant must be a high school senior.

  3. The applicant must apply through the related member's Elks Lodge, regardless of where the applicant resides.

  4. If the applicant's parent and grandparent are both Elk members, the applicant must apply through the parent's Elks Lodge.

  5. Students may apply for more than one ENF scholarship; however, they may win only one. In cases where the student qualifies for more than one, we will award the scholarship with the greater value.

  6. Legacy Awards may only be applied to accredited US American schools, colleges or universities. (Note: Applicants from Guam, Panama, Puerto Rico and the Philippines may apply Legacy Awards toward schools, colleges or universities in their respective homes.)

  7. Applicants must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test or the American College Test by December 31, 2009.

Application Procedure:
 
  1. Obtain a Legacy Award Application from your local Lodge, visit the Elks website to download an application, or send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Elks National Foundation. Applications will be in the Lodges and online by September 1, 2009.

  2. The student must complete the application and return it to the Elks National Foundation postmarked no later than January 8, 2010, along with an up-to-date transcript of grades, SAT or ACT score results, and two letters of recommendation, including one from a high school teacher.

  3. Be sure you obtain the required signatures. The Elk parent or grandparent with longest continuous membership completes part two of the required signature section; Lodge Secretary completes part three. (Note to Secretaries: You many verify membership before the application is completed.)

  4. Upon receipt of the application, the applicant will receive a notification that the application was received. Winners will be announced on or around May 1, 2010.
Selection Criteria:
The ENF Legacy Awards contest provides educational assistance to children and grandchildren of Elk members who are high school seniors, going on to college, and exhibit the core values of the Elks National Foundation:

  1. Knowledge
  2. Charity
  3. Community
  4. Integrity

The Selection Committee judges applications based on the above values. There will be no further investigation of the prospective students or their parents with respect to financial need or other personal matters.

4. Emergency Educational Grants:

 

Eligibilty:   

1.      The Elk parent or stepparent must have been a member in good standing for at least one year at the time of his or her death.

or

2.      The Elk parent or stepparent must have been a member in good standing for at least one year before he or she became totally disabled and must continue to be an Elk in good standing when application for assistance is made.

 

3.      All circumstances surrounding the death or disability of the Elk parent or stepparent are subject to the review of the Elks National Foundation. The outcome of the review may effect grant approval.

 

4.       The applicant must demonstrate financial need to qualify for a grant under this program.

 

5.      The applicant must be unmarried, under the age of 23 as of Dec. 31 in the year of application, and attending a U.S. college or university as a full-time (12 semester hours) undergraduate student.

 

Submission Deadline:

New applications should be filed between July 1 and December 31. Renewal applications must be filed between July 1 and October 31.

 

 

Application Procedure:

 

    1. All applications -- new and renewal -- must be submitted to, and processed by, the Lodge where the Elk parent or stepparent is

               or was a member. Be sure to use the checklist on the application to ensure that all necessary paperwork has been included.

 

        2.   The Lodge must investigate the application, and submit a letter of endorsement with the application. After the vote of the

                Lodge, the Lodge Secretary must complete the portion of the application as noted. These steps must be followed on all new

                AND renewal applications.

 

      3.   As soon as possible after the student has turned the application in to the Lodge, the Scholarship Committee should conduct its

                investigation, and the Lodge should follow up with a vote, so that the application can be submitted to the ENF office.

 

      4.   The ENF office does not mail applications for this program in bulk quantities. With each new printing, we may make several

                changes to the application, so we want to be sure that the Lodges have the most up-to-date application. The Lodge or the

                student may request an Emergency Educational Grant application from the ENF Chicago office by contacting (773) 755-4732
