ER's Knotes
The summer is starting to heat up. With that, there are a couple of events this month at the Elk’s 112. Look inside for more details. We are off to Orlando to represent the Sioux City Lodge at the national convention. The Iowa Elks Association will once again seek an amendment to the national by-laws. We are asking for a word change considering the financing of the National Home in Virginia. The current law states that we "shall" finance the home, we are seeking to change this to "may". This was tried last year, but somebody changed the wording of our request to "shall not". You can find details about the home at the national web site. The officers performed our Flag Day ceremony on the 13th of June at the Sioux City Bandshell. Despite the intermittent rain showers, several hundred people enjoyed the performances of the Iowa Air National Guard and the Sioux City Municipal Band. Until next month, try to stay cool.
Exalted Ruler,
Dan Lewis

Ladies Corner
Hello Ladies,
Happy Summer and Independence Day!!
As you read this, Dan and I are probably in Orlando, FL for the National Convention or have just come back. I’m sure the time there will be interesting and packed with activities. Summer is suppose to be a time of relaxation but I find that I am so busy with chores around the house that were forgotten all year, running my daughter to one activity or another, and the many family gatherings, that "relaxing" doesn’t explain the summer. Don’t forget to see your friends at the Elks and cool off with a nice summer drink after work. Maybe that is what I’m missing!
Also keep in mind those soldiers who continue to fight for what makes America great—freedom. Make July a month to reconnect with a Veteran. No matter what war, what branch of service, what job they held; they gave of themselves so that we can enjoy the life we live. The partnership of the Elks and Veterans is in our founding framework. Remember to take time to breathe, relax and bask in the warm glow of what America means to us all.
